Today is your last chance…

…before these products fly away!

It’s still Sale-a-bration – that doesn’t end until 31st March.

You can still get a FREE product from the Sale-a-bration brochure for every $90 you spend.

But this year we’re changing things up a bit…

The last three pages of the brochure show three products that won’t be on offer to claim as your freebies after today!

And here they are:

Sky Is The Limit
(141282 Wood, 141349 Clear Mount)
Free with a $90 purchase

Perfectly Artistic 12″ x 12″ DSP
(141021)
Free with a $90 purchase

Hello
(141240 Wood, 141243 Clear Mount)
Free with a $90 purchase

And here are a couple of cards I’ve made using these products:

This one uses both the papers – which I’ve sponged to add more variety of colour – and the Hello stamp set.

And this one is a variation on the Valentine’s cards I posted yesterday. I used the same layout but all of a sudden it’s a Congratulations card instead!

So while it’s sad to say goodbye to these products, the good news is that I’ll be back tomorrow to tell you about the THREE brand new products you’ll be able to earn for free instead!

Cheers

Love is in the air!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Thought you might like to see all the love-themed cards I’ve been making lately for workshops, classes, and of course one for His Awesomeness too!

The first one is truly a Valentine’s card.

Why is that? Because it says so!

The background on this, and the next couple of cards, was made by creating a mask from a piece of Vellum Cardstock, either by using the trimmer or one of my dies, and then sponging ink over the mask in two or three colours.

The next two were variations on the same card using the Sky Is The Limit stamp set from Sale-a-bration. There’s a morning version…

With close up details using a back to front brad and the Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush:

And then there’s a sunset version…

With close up details using the Gold Wink of Stella Glitter Brush!

This stamp set is one of three products in the range of Sale-a-bration products – the ones you can choose for free for every $90 you spend – that you only have until the end of the day tomorrow to get.  Sale-a-bration is still on until the end of March but the last three products in the brochure are finishing tomorrow, and there’ll be some new ones to choose from Tuesday!

So if this one takes your fancy you’ll have to get in quick!

Sky Is The Limit
(141282 Wood, 141349 Clear Mount)
Free with a $90 purchase.

And this is the card that I actually gave to Wonder Hubby this morning. It’s so perfect for us because he’s from England and I’m from Australia (love how these two countries are embossed on either side of the greeting) and when we were getting to know each other we spent a lot of time a VERY long way apart. Didn’t stop us then, won’t stop us now, this sentiment truly says it all!

Halloween at home!

You never know what you’ll use your Stampin’ Up! products for!

And this is a project I never expected to spend Halloween morning doing!

I love Halloween! I know it’s not traditional to celebrate in Australia but since I became a parent it’s become an essential part of our family calendar. My boys love dressing up and getting into the spirit of all things spooky, creepy and downright horrid!

And His Awesomeness loves it too. At some point he had the crazy idea to order a couple of polystyrene heads that he would chop the tops off, scoop out the insides and use as bowls! Odd indeed!

So on Halloween morning I found myself looking at two white heads, the tops cut off and various implements skewered through them. He’d even added a bit of tomato sauce to one of them.

I made a passing comment about having plenty of ink to take care of that sort of thing. He said ‘Go for it.’ And then I was stuck.

So I sponged, spritzed, flicked, smudged and drew with my markers and ink pads until I’d created something rather gruesome.

 A Gifford-style Treat Dispenser!

This is the second one I did – because I couldn’t have one looking all dressed up and the other plain white!

I decided less was more this time and it ended up looking like a tortured alien.

I think I like this one the best of the two. What do you think?

Note – I left the tomato sauce intact!

And would you believe this is what they both looked like when they were first delivered.

The colour change was great but what really made the difference was giving definition to the features. The nose on these is pretty much non-existent until you outline and shade it. And the eyes are completely lifeless. Can’t have that!

And just to prove that my boys really do get into the spirit of things, here they are about to set off Trick or Treating in our little street.

And here’s Wonder Hubby waiting for anyone to venture nearby! Creepy!

Colour Challenge Blog Hop

Welcome to the Art With Heart Team Blog Hop for October. This is an awesome Australia-wide team full of fun, friendship, inspiration and support – who wouldn’t want to be a part of that!

This month instead of a theme we have a colour challenge! And I have to admit that I did indeed find this one a challenge! A fun one, but a challenge none the less. Here are our colours…

I love all four of these colours individually and when I set out to play I wasn’t having any trouble combining them in groups of two or three. But I struck some trouble when trying to use all four!

From the outset I looked at these as some really girly colours so thought I might be able to kill two birds with one stone by using them on the birthday card I needed to make my 4-year-old niece. I tried, I really did – and probably for far longer than I should, but I just couldn’t get it to come together for a 4th birthday card.

I decided that I needed a design with lots of white space to accommodate all those different hues. And then I realised that it was the brightness of the gorgeous Watermelon Wonder that was throwing me so I hit on a way to include it without having it compete too much with the other colours – as the outline of my Pink Pirouette flowers! Here’s my first card:

But I’d played so much I had all sorts of ideas buzzing round – and lots of partially completed pieces – so once I’d had some success I salvaged my bright girly butterflies and took them in another direction. Here’s the result:

It is a birthday card, but I didn’t really think it was right for my niece so back to the drawing board on that one.

In the meantime I can’t wait to see what all my fellow blog-hoppers have been doing with these colours – and I’d love to see what you come up with too so feel free to share.

Well that’s it from me, now it’s time see what Kathryn Ruddick has conjured up with these colours.

Father’s Day Blog Hop

It’ll be September before you know it. Can you believe how fast this year is going? For some reason Father’s Day always sneaks up on me. One minute it’s the middle of winter and the next it’s already September.

So today I’m getting together with some of the Art with Heart Stampin’ Up! team girls to inspire you with some Father’s Day ideas – and remind you that’s it’s really not that far away!

You may have just been inspired by the creativity of Tina Gillespie, if so, I hope I can live up to expectations. If you’re starting from here, welcome, and thanks for taking the time to join in on our hop.

I don’t know about you, but the dads in my life are pretty non-traditional. They don’t really like any of the ‘classic’ dad themes you see on mass produced cards. Some years I can find inspiration in their specific interests but sometimes I find making cards for Father’s Day a bit of a challenge, especially when the stamp sets designed with ‘masculine’ cards in mind don’t necessarily suit the specific men I’m creating for.

My first sample uses stamps from three sets that are a very long way from what would be considered by most as ‘masculine’. It has foliage images from both Butterfly Basics and Awesomely Artistic. And I took the greeting from Hello Life – a set more readily associated with romance. For me what really makes this card work – and makes it suitable for Father’s Day – is the addition of the word ‘Daddy’. I know His Awesomeness gets a huge amount of happiness from just being ‘Daddy’ so the combination of words and images evoke the idea of him spending time outside with his boys – an absolute favourite past time, and much-need antidote to work-related stresses. Except now I have to hope he’s too busy with those stresses to read my blog and see the card he’ll be getting!

Butterfly Basics

Awesomely Artistic

Hello Life

Continuing with the nature theme, my second sample card features a sneak peek of an item from the upcoming Holiday Catalogue. I just couldn’t resist the simplicity and beauty of the new Woodland Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. And I loved that all it needed to make it perfect for the occasion was a few well chosen words – from the Crazy About You stamp set. This was such an easy card to make and would suit almost all fathers no matter what their interests.

Bizarrely, for my third sample my train of thought went right off the nature track to almost the complete opposite – an urban grunge look. This uses another great embossing folder – Brick Wall – and it’s incredibly versatile. Depending on the colours you choose and they way you add them you can use it for any occasion and any recipient you can think of. It makes a stunning backdrop or an eye-catching feature. For this card I used the Embossed Embossing technique I taught in this month’s Stamp Club – where you combine dry embossing with heat embossing. And I took the cue from my first sample and die cut the letter panel to tailor it for Father’s Day – or at least for a Dad recipient.

Well that’s it from me, now it’s time see how Kate Morgan will be celebrating the special dads in her life.

AWHT Logo2

Don’t forget, if you’re already thinking about getting into gear for your Christmas crafting, the 2015 Holiday Catalogue goes live on 1 September. If you’d like a copy sent to you just let us know.

AUGUST CLASS – Change of dates!

Do you know how to create backgrounds?

The possibilities for creating backgrounds for cards and scrapbook layouts using ink, paper and stamps are virtually endless.

In this class you’ll learn four different ways using four different tools – liquid ink refills, water based markers, sponges and a brayer.

ALL DATES CHANGED DUE TO ILLNESS – Mine and the kids’!

Thursday 20th AUGUST
8pm – 11pm

$20 per person OR $10 with discount*
All four projects we’ll be making use the new THICK Whisper White Cardstock as a base, and all four make use of the negative space cut out by the Greeting’s Thinlits. You’ll even be able to take home the four surplus words already cut out and ready to go!
Greetings Thinlits Dies (p172)
(138275) Just $25.00 for all 3 dies!
Here’s a closer look at the four cards:
The first uses liquid reinker bottles and the Bokeh Technque that borrows it’s look from photography.

This one uses the Misted Marker technique to create a blotchy, imperfect look that works perfectly with the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.

The next one is the simplest of the bunch and uses the large background stamp to do most of the work on top of a sponged background.

Finally, a large background embossing folder starts the job and a brayer finishes off the ‘slate’ look.

Did you spot that two of the projects also make use of the Bow Builder Punch?
Bow Builder Punch (p167)
(137414) $31.00
This is one of those things that’s so simple to use – as soon as you know how.
Here’s a quick video that shows you how:

Did you see the Aurora Borealis?

It’s been one of my dreams to see the Northern Lights some day so when there was a spectacular Aurora Borealis visible here in Victoria recently and I didn’t see it I was gutted.

But it did remind me that I’d been wanting to try out the Northern Lights technique for a looooong time. So why not now?

This technique is all done with sponging. I used a combination of Sponge Daubers and Stampin’ Sponges for my tools. I masked off the bottom portion with a torn piece of scrap paper and just played around until I got a look I liked – I did go through quite a few sheets of cardstock though! The colours I used for the sky were Crushed Curry, Melon Mambo, Tempting Turquoise, Pumpkin Pie, Blackberry Bliss and Black.

Once I was happy I sponged some Garden Green ink for the ground and stamped the silhouette trees over the top. I used a combination of Sheltering Tree and the ever reliable Lovely As A Tree.

Finally I added the greetings and the stars. The latter were dotted around using the tip of the White Gel Pen and really made a huge difference to the look of the sky.

After all the sponging attempts that didn’t make the cut I ended up making two cards. I like the ‘lights’ better on one and the layout better on the other.

Which one do you like best?

Leave me a comment and let me know!

Do you want to know a secret?

I stamped the greetings in Whisper White ink but didn’t like how pale they seemed on the background, so I held my breath and traced over the stamping with the White Gel Pen.

In future I think I’ll use White Embossing Powder and emboss over the top.

Don’t forget to let me know which version your prefer.

Cheers

We’ll be making three Cherry Cobbler cards, all using a different element from one of the new Christmas stamp sets ‘Santa’s Gifts’.

Santa’s Gifts (p68)

Here’s a close look at each of the cards:
We’ll use the new Brick Wall embossing folder to create a chimney for a punch art Santa to peek out from!

We’re going to help Santa give a lovely pressie to Rudolph:

And we’ll make a card that’s quick and easy to reproduce in multiples but still has that lovely handstamped look!

My Mum’s Mother’s Day Card

It’s about time I shared the card I actually gave my mum!

In the lead up to Mother’s Day I created lots of suitable cards for mums. But I made those for specific classes, shared them in my newsletter, on Facebook or on my blog, so it just didn’t seem right to give any of those to my mum on the day. I didn’t want her to think she was getting it as an afterthought!

So here’s the card I made especially for her. It starts off pretty, but quite simple:

Then when you go to open it up…

…up pops another butterfly carrying the greeting.

And because there really isn’t an ‘inside’ to write in, I created a special panel on the back:

This style of card is called a Wiper Card because the mechanism that pops up is sort of like the windscreen wipers on a car.

The paper on the card is a sheet of the pre-embossed paper from the Sale-a-bration pack called Irresistibly Yours. I sponged it in a few different colours and the embossed pattern immediately became clear.

Because this paper is from Sale-a-bration it’s no longer available BUT… the good news is that we have a pack very similar to it in the new Annual Catalogue:

Colour Me Irresistible
(138439) $22.75
The coloured sheets have an embossed look, the white sheets are just waiting for you to colour them to make the patterns pop!
12 sheets total in 12″ x 12″ size: 6 single-sided designs in white,
1 each in Basic Black, Cucumber Crush, Delightful Dijon, Mint Macaron, Tip Top Taupe and Watermelon Wonder.

Cheers
